Alzheimers amongst masons @ 11-05-2006 09:59 PM
Evidently one of the best defences against Alzheimers is an active brain. A fellow brother suggested that you come across very few Masons with Alzheimers disease. In fact he felt he had never come across any. Now this is purely anecdotal so continuing in that vein has anyone come across a brother who has fallen afoul of this terrible affliction. Or, on another tack, have people found the act of memorising ritual has been directly beneficial in other aspect of their life beyond the moral and intellectual learning it instructs - eg. health, mental

I know plenty of Brethren with great memories. I have always said that having to learn ritual and memorise it as we do must enhance the grey cells later in life, although some mornings you would not think it when I cant find my car keys! ;D

Thats a very interesting hypothesy! Ill have to look into that. Grammie and Grampie James both had Alzheimers (OES and Masons), but Im thinking it was something environmental bc they both got it (husband and wife).

You bring up a good point fire I believe a lot of our sicknesses and deseases and that are from the environment and caused by weather. I mean think about this, THE WEATHER effects everything and nothing can not be effected by it you know. But I am a big weather bug n all

I dont mean to get off topic... But a lot of our lakes etc. are polluted because of the MIDWEST. They have all kinds of factories and plants that pollute the air and water there. But the nasty rain falls on US, not there. I cant explain it because Im not a weather "bug", but I do the air/wind current takes their acid/polluted rain right over our heads.
As for Grammie and Grampie James, they lived by a lake for DECADES that later was found to have a high level of toxins. But their water came from the lake before most people knew what a microscope was.
Studies HAVE PROVEN that the best defense against Alzheimers is an active brain. What a better way than to ward it off by memorizing your ritual? LOL If your wives/husbands complain, just tell them to thank you later when the neighbor gets it. :-\
