Myself, I was going to join the USMC at one time but my ex-fiance (who was my fiance at the time) pleaded that I didn't, so my love for her stopped me.

Never really wanted to join any military unit although I know Bros who have. Nearly joined the UK police though once but they would not let me have a gun! >

I joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1963 until 1969 at age 19. A great place to be for a young and somewhat niave teenager.

Like many others in the Armed Services, I was a bit different, though after I returned from Vietnam.
Life was more serious.

My family emegrated here in 1950, from Leytonstone England, and we have never looked back since.

we had to learn a new language, though, words such as "avagoodweegend" and "wachabloodylookinat"? and not take offence if some one called you a "Old Bastard" as such words are really a term of endearment.

Of course, then there is cricket.....the annual 'war' between Australia and the UK.

I have put a post on the Humour and Laughs thread about a cricket match. We would just substitute "England" for "Molonglo", and "Orwstrayla" for "Piper's Flat"
