But as humans, we take care of our homes and keep up with repairs so they don't become unlivable...so why not do the same with the earth/// :o

We can control material objects to a degree. We can grow trees for wood and then make that wood into our homes. We can gather the natural materials within the earth and make steel and other items from that. We cannot control when it rains, or when and where a hurricane will strike. We cannot make new icebergs or melt current ones. We cannot raise the sea, or lower it. Mother Earth will do all that just as she has done for millennia.
Just my theory.

I like how you said we can take stuff from nature to use for our home but why do we only take care of it and not the original source that provided us with it?

Because it has been there for thousands of years. If we were to believe in a divine providence, why would he create us with the ability to reason and create technology and then let us run out of raw materials? We would not be able to "fruitfully multiply". 8)
