Info for new joining applicants. @ 12-16-2007 01:08 PM
I am putting together an article on what should be told to an applicant at his interview or even information he should be aware of before applying to join Freemasonry.
I have seem members leave soon after joining as it was not what they expected and was not told anything about what they were getting into. A lot of lodges try to get candidates for the wrong reason i.e financial, numbers, something to do at the next meeting etc. without thinking of the candidates future expectations.
I am not talking about the details of the rituals or ceremonies as this would spoil it for them. Details they should know are for example, financial fees, dining, raffles. Comitments of time to meetings and LOIs. Freemasonry is based on dramas which have to be learnt from memory like plays etc.
I have asked Brethren before about giving out more info but have been told it has always been done this way and the only way to find out is to let them join!
What info would you suggest I put on an article for applicants. I will then present this article to our WM and the GP Committee (and run!) ;D

Here is an excellent "ultra-basic" review of what each new applicant for Freemasonry should know. It was prepared in a series of pamphlets by the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts.

You could possibly obtain hard copies from the GL of Mass.
and here is an excellent "short talk" bulletin, on being truly prepared:

BTW- This is an excellent project, and I wish you every possible success.

The masonicinfo.com site, is that a pro-Masonic site or an Anti-Masonic site? I can never tell...

masonicinfo.com is unlike any other site. It contains a huge amount of information, that presents Masonry in a light of truth. "Warts and All", there is information there, that is not favorable to Masonry.
