My partners illness @ 06-16-2007 07:28 PM
Hi all
The reason I have been quiet recently is my partner Alison who has been chronically ill for many years now collapsed and went into a coma last Sunday evening.
She was in intensive Care until yesterday when she awoke. After running all the tests at the Hospital they released her today to come home.
She can not walk, use the toilet, wash or feed herself so things are hard here at present.
I will be stopping work and paying for nurses to come and help me as I have not had a proper sleep for nearly a week.
We still have to go to Hospital 3 times a week for check ups, scans etc. and she still slurs words, so when I post on here she will be asleep.
I will keep you posted on progress.

Peter.
For some time I haven't checked the forum and when I did I was looking at the old web link & wasn't getting redirected to the new domain.
I am very sad to hear about your partners ill health and I hope that she recovers soon. This must be a terrible trial and strain for you both at this time and I shall be including you in my prayers.
I will PM you.
Kind regards,
Phoenix

Just an update. Alison is off the critical list now but is still weak. She can do the basic things herself but still needs caring. The nurses have gone and we now have a cleaner and gardener. I still have to get food and drink for her but she can feed herself. She is still sleeping alot though which gives me time to get on here and maybe a few Lodge meeting when we start again at the end of the month.
We are seeing a specialist once a month who seems to know what their doing although it is a 4.5 hour drive each way
which we do in one day.
Although the illness is terminal, it is stabilising.
Thanks for all your support.

My prayers and thoughts are with you Bro. Michael and your partner Dianne. I know how hard it can be for both of you at this difficult time. Do you use the Almoner to keep the Lodge informed?
The lodge has helped me keep my sanity by giving me somewhere to go and take my mind off things. The Brethren have also been a great help by visiting me when I can not leave Alison and also doing small chores like collecting things from local stores.
I hope Dianne makes a speedy recovery but you also need your strength to look after her and yourself so if possible accept all the help you can from your lodge and do not be too proud to ask for help.
Keep us informed of the progress.
Take care.
