Opening in the 3rd degree. @ 11-04-2006 07:24 PM
I have asked this question on another forum but would like the input from the Brethren on this forum.
Do any of your Lodges open in the third on LOIs/LORs?
Do you open and close in the 3rd other than doing a Raising ceremony?

Great question. We open and close 3rd degree. But there
was talk coming from the Nebraska GL to open with the
1st or 2nd degree to get members who havent been raised
the chance to be involved with the business of the lodge

We always open in the 1st, do a EA degree, or go up to the 2nd if doing a FC degree and only open in the 3rd if doing a raising.

We open at all times on the 1st, raising only if required for degree work.
As for LOI, my lodge doesn't have one, but the ones I have visited tyle the lodge as if in a regular meeting, therefore open 1st and raising as necessary.
The LOI, due to its purpose, should operate exactly as it would on a regular lodge night, else some of the purpose of the LOI is lost. No point practising for the night if your gonna do it different if you get what I mean.

I think it is a good idea to open in the first, then second, then third, do a third ceremomy or come back down the degrees to the ceremony being carried that evening. This way everyone can get used to seeing all the degrees every meeting.
