Some of my favorite quotes @ 02-24-2008 08:17 PM
Just some of the quotes I really like. The first two are from Lew Wallace. He is from my home county of Montgomery County, IN, and one of my local heroes. He's probably most famous for writing Ben Hur, and for being Governor of New Mexico territory and dealing with Billy the Kid.
“As a rule, there is no surer way to the dislike of men than to behave well where they have behaved badly”
“One is never more on trial than in the moment of excessive good fortune.”
The next are by John "The Duke" Wayne. This was and still is my favorite movie star. I watched his movies with my dad when I was growing up; part of father-son bonding. His philosophy on and off screen pretty much influenced me, along with my dad.
“Talk low, talk slow and don't say too much.”
“Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway”
These are by the father of our country, and someone I admire greatly; George Washington.
“Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence.”
“The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good.”
“To be prepared for War is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace”
Another great president of our country that I admire a great deal; Theodore Roosevelt.
“The only man who makes no mistakes is the man who never does anything.”
“We can have no "50-50" allegiance in this country. Either a man is an American and nothing else, or he is not an American at all.”
“Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit softly”
Is it any wonder these great men were all Freemasons? I am excited that my petition will soon start my journey and that I will be part of a great fraternity of men such as these.
