What made you join Freemasonry @ 09-09-2006 05:36 PM
I overheard a friend on the phone talking about a Lodge meeting so I asked him.
When I first petitioned to join Freemasonry, I did not know a lot about the organisation except that it did things for charity and made you a better man.
I did no research or background history on Freemasonry. I know this seems silly to join something you know nothing about but something felt right about it and my instincts said “go for it!”
So I did, I jumped right in both feet first and it is the best thing I have ever done. The only regret I have is that I didn’t join earlier.
I love Freemasonry and try to attend all the Lodge of Instruction and Lodge of Rehearsal and very rarely miss a Lodge Meeting.

not silly at all, i have always been interested in masonry myself even as a young boy...then one day i petitioned and walla, i am a 3rd degree and I am glad. most of all, i wanted to join because its an organization of trust where it enables you to trust one and other and protect eachother, that is true brotherly love IMHO.

Im not a Mason, but part of an apendant body... so I think my post is welcome here??? My grandparents and mother were Masons/OES before I was born. I literally grew up in a Masonic family, not in the sense that my blood relatives were members, but that all friends of the family were either OES/Masons as well. Everyone I knew growing up was one or the other, except for at school. I was a little ahead of the others when I was 4 or 5 (I dont know what happened) and my Papa would recite his lectures over and over and I would look in the book to tell him if he messed up a word (ahead meaning I was already reading at that age). From what my grandmother says I was playing in the kitchen saying all of this crazy stuff and asked my grandfather about it. She said he looked like he was going to faint and immediately went out and bought one of those pocket recorders. I was relinquished of my job as I had memorized the lecture!!! I waited until my grandmother was WM again and thats when I decided to join. Everything seemed perfect! My birthday is January 15th and after my petition was accepted, I got my date back and I was being initiated on Jan. 14th!!! It was a birthday present too! Since June I havent been able to attend my home meeting because I *have* to work that night. Even though Ive only been a member for 4 years, Ive had some really great experiences. A couple people (and friends) from our Chapter have been "Grands". This last time when one was GWP wed all load into the minivan at least once a week and travel all over the state to Chapter together. My grandmother is gone now, but I still have all of these memories that no one else got to share with her and I have OES to thank for that.

You are so lucky to have family who are or were Masons. I am the only one in my family who is or was a Mason and there are no children to follow! Although, now I am a Mason I have Brothers and Sisters all over the world!
